The brief wireless network maintenance is now complete.  If wireless do not appear to be working normally for you, or if you have any questions about the changes that were made, please contact the OIT Helpdesk via email to helpdesk@rice.edu, or via the web at https://oit.rice.edu/request-help.  If you have an urgent issue regarding wireless, please contact the OIT Network Operations Center at 713-348-4989 this weekend between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm (Saturday and Sunday).
This morning, between 5:00 am and 6:00 am, while we make some configuration changes to improve service, there will be a couple of very brief disruptions of the Rice Owls and eduroam wireless networks.  We will send an OIT-Alert when the work is complete.
OIT Networking has completed the maintenance on I2 (Internet2) connection.  Please report any issues to the Help Desk (x4357).

The Shibboleth software upgrade has been completed successfully.
The Shibboleth software providing single sign-on for campus will be upgraded starting at 8pm. No disruption of service is expected.
The fiber splicers completed the last of the almost 360 splices at 8:30 am this morning, and the last of the affected buildings came back on-line.  Our monitoring systems show that the network and phone services has been fully restored.  If you find that anything is not performing as expected, please contact the OIT Helpdesk at 713-348-HELP.
Since update #2, the repair team had a breakthrough that has improved the timeframe for the completion of the repair. If the spicing work continues as it is currently progressing, full restoration of services should now be achieved by 9:00 am.…
The fiber cable repair is not yet complete. The team ran into some additional challenges with the preparing the 2nd half of the repair. Unfortunately, due to this, the current estimate for completion is now 10:30 am.
Rice Networking confirmed earlier tonight that we did experience a fiber optic cable cut between Wiess College and Tudor Fieldhouse. Our fiber repair team is on-site and will be working through the night to install a new segment of cable to restore services. We have just detected a probable fiber cut on campus.  As a result of it, the following buildings are currently off-line for all data services and potentially some telephone services: Reckling Park Chaucer Building Rice Children’s Campus Greenbriar Building Media Center Police Department Rice Village Apartments Soccer Stadium Football Stadium (not Brian Patterson) Staff is en-route to investigate and begin appropriate repairs.

This morning, one of the pathways that Rice uses to connect to the Internet failed to operate properly.  Because it did not completely fail, the automatic switching of traffic flows to our other links did not occur.  Networking manually bypassed the affected equipment and Internet services are now working properly again.  If, however, you find something is not working as expected, please contact the OIT Helpdesk at 713-348-HELP or email help@rice.edu.

Connectivity to Rice Owls
This morning our campus users reported connectivity issues to the Rice Owls wireless network.  OIT has resolved this issue with a certificate update to the server.
