A new phishing message (subject: Case ID 1867 email Verification) is alarming many Rice email customers today, but do NOT give up your password.

Rice accounts are only deactivated when you leave the university (graduation or end of employment).

Never give up your password.

The VLAN move has been made.

This Wednesday at 6:00AM RiceMail mail clients may experience a disconnect/reconnect as the VLAN behind the Mudd Netscaler is moved.

FE&P has a scheduled power outage from 1:30 to 2:30 PM today at Wiess College. As a result networking (wired and wireless) is down. Thank you for your understanding.

IBC Power outage

There is a power outage affecting both Greenbriar & IBC at this time. Rice IT is aware, and will update when available.

The network device servicing the first floor of the Greenbriar building is down. Technical services is aware and investigating. We will update via IT-Alerts when available.

The campus-wide Rice network is scheduled for maintenance tomorrow, Saturday morning, June 19, between 6:00 and 7:00 AM.

Anyone connected to the Internet during the maintenance window will experience two brief service disruptions.

The BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) building's network connection is scheduled for maintenance tomorrow, Saturday morning, 8:00-11:00 AM.

All occupants in the BRC will be without Internet connections for at least one hour during this window.

A one-hour maintenance window for the Rice network has been scheduled for Saturday morning, June 19, between 6:00 and 7:00 AM.

IMPACT: during this time period, anyone connected to the Internet may experience two 5-minute service disruptions. All incoming email messages will be held and delivered after the maintenance.

In addition, maintenance for the BRC building's network connection is also scheduled for Saturday morning, 8:00-11:00 AM.

IMPACT: network connectivity will not be available anywhere in the BRC building for at least one hour between 8 and 11 AM Saturday morning.

The IT Tutorials update is complete, and the new automatically-generated navigation column is in place. IT will now begin a cleanup phase to remove the old manually-created navigation column on each page.

espn3 "currently does not allow" streaming to campuses. The workaround is in spanish. Or Use your home ISP provider if available. DO NOT use Rice credentials on espn.

Early Wednesday morning, IT Tutorials - a wiki containing "how-to" instructions and other IT documentation - will be updated to include a new navigation column, making it easier for customers to find the documentation they need. A network access blade failed shortly after the maintenance procedures this morning. A limited number of users (48 at maximum) will be temporarily without networking. RESOLVED - Duncan College

A network device in Duncan College rebooted due to a software error. IT:Networking is investigating the root cause to determine if a fix is needed to prevent a recurrence. If you have any questions, please contact Danny Eaton (dannyeaton@rice.edu, x5233).

Telephone service to the IBC building has been restored.

Telephone service is not expected to be restored to the Rice offices in the IBC building until this afternoon. A hardware problem has been identified as the cause of the disruption. Telecommunications is awaiting the delivery of a replacement server.

The campus voice mail outage that was planned for 11:15 was cancelled.

To restore telephone service to the Rice offices in the IBC building, Telecommunications and their vendor, Shared Technology, will be rebooting the link between the IBC building and the campus at 11:15 am this morning. This will also cause a 5 minute outage of voice mail for the campus.

IT Networking is beginning the scheduled maintenance for Duncan Hall. If your wall jack ID goes to closet 4022, you will experience a temporary network outage as we reboot this gear for preventative maintenance processes. An all clear will be sent upon completion.
