To check the release version for your laptop see "About this Mac" under the Apple icon at the top of your screen.

Network Maintenance

Network Management had to perform additional work from todays maintenance. At this time all services are back up.

The Rice network maintenance work was completed as anticipated. All services are fully functional at this time. Thank you for your patience during this disruption.

IT is performing maintenance on the network's internal firewall components early tomorrow morning: June 14, 2011, between 6:00AM and 6:30AM. Storage maintenance has been completed.

IT continues to test Google Calendar. Regarding the Google "Oops" message that appeared when some customers logged in, we have a working solution. As of 2:00 PM yesterday, we had helped about 25 customers who reported the problem. Please continue to email helpdesk@rice.edu with "Google Calendar" in the subject if you see this message or other discrepancies with that calendar system.

In order to fix an emerging problem with Rice Visitor wireless, the Networking team is performing an emergency upgrade to the controller software for a portion of Rice's wireless infrastructure.

The situation is severe enough that we are proceeding with limited testing. Although unlikely, because of this, the upgrade may introduce some other issues that we have not yet identified. The areas that will be affected are:

Tudor
Rec Center
Brockstein Pavilion
RMC
Memorial Herman
Brockman Hall for Physics
Parts of the South Colleges

As always, if you see any issues in these areas, please contact the Rice IT Helpdesk at 713-348-HELP.

If you have been using Google Calendar with your Rice NetID and received the following message,

"Oops. Another calendar has been created for NetID@rice.edu,"

please send an email to helpdesk@rice.edu with "Google Calendar" in the subject.

The Phonoscope cable TV feed to Rice has been restored to service.

Phonsocope has identified a fiber cable cut between their offices and Rice. Their technicians are on-site and working on the repair. They estimate that service should be restored close to noon today.

Sometime this morning, the Phonoscope cable-TV feed to the Rice campus went down. As a result cable-TV is completely unavailable throughout the campus. We are working with Phonoscope to determine the cause. We do not yet have an estimate for when service will be restored.

The Rice network maintenance work in PDC Pod-A was completed as anticipated. All services are fully functional at this time. Thank you for your patience.

This is an all clear, the storage diagnostic completed, no service disruptions resulted from the test.

A diagnostic of the storage system needs to be run with real time loads. We don't expect any problems, but wanted to give folks a heads up. The diagnostic should take about 10 minutes to run and we expect it to complete at around 4:10 PM. SAI will be monitoring loads during the diagnostic.
