The storage maintenance for this morning has been completed.

IT is performing a critical update on all personal and departmental storage spaces early Saturday morning, October 29, between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

While the rolling reboot is occurring, you may lose access to your storage folders for a few minutes. Related services like web sites and applications will also be affected for brief intervals during this one-hour maintenance.

The failing component was replaced and networking services were restored prior to 9 AM. Thank you for your patience.

A failing component was found during routine maintenance of network gear in Allen Center. The component is being replaced at this time. An all-clear message will be send out when complete. Thank you for your understanding. For any questions, please ask Dylan Jacob (dtj1@rice.edu).

On Thursday morning at 7AM, IT will make a small configuration change to improve the link between the directory of active customers (LDAP) and the Help Desk request tracking tool. This brief update will not affect any requests for service sent to helpdesk@rice.edu

All Exchange services are back online.

Exchange problems

The Exchange server is experiencing some issues. IT is researching and will post updates to the web site (it.rice.edu).

Exchange affects the Jones School, Development and a few other groups who utilize the system for email.

The network gear in Cohen House rebooted. All functionality appears to be back up and normal. - Danny Eaton (dannyeaton@rice.edu, x5233)

At approximately 10:30, the campus experienced a short internet disruption of around three seconds. One of the two main redundant Rice internet connections went offline and the other connections picked up its load. Networking is investigating the cause.

Tech Services is enroute to investigate network disruption on second floor Graduate Apartments.

IT is making enhancements to the campus email system between 8:00PM Friday, October 14, and 11:50PM Sunday, October 16. You may notice a short, one-time delay if you are working your messages while your account is in transition.

6AM email restart

At 6AM, IT will restart one of the campus email servers. About 30% of the campus email accounts are managed by this server but the restart takes less than 5 seconds and was scheduled at a time of minimum impact.

Reconnect with your NetID password if you lose your connection.

The Owlspace Course Management service has been restored

The Owlspace Course management system is currently still offline past the normal maintenance window. IT is investigating the cause. An all clear will be sent when the service is restored

One of the campus email servers will be re-started early Thursday morning, at 6AM. Although this takes only a few seconds, you may lose your connection. Simply reconnect with your NetID password at the prompt. Please report issues to the Help Desk: 713.348.4357.

Although some vendor updates are still in progress, OWL-Socrates (Panopto) is available for use. Owl-Socrates is the tool students use to review recorded lectures of their instructors.

Owl-Space (Panopto) is still off-line while the vendor completes maintenance work on this system used by students to review lectures previously recorded by their instructors. Updates on this Fall Recess maintenance outage will be posted to the IT web site.

IT is working with the vendor on a scheduled maintenance for OWL-Socrates (also called Panopto). The maintenance outage was planned for fall recess, when students would not be accessing the lecture-capture system. This maintenance window is expected to last from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM today, Monday, October 10. Updates will be posted to the IT web site: http://it.rice.edu/

Owl-Socrates (also know as Panopto) will be off-line for 4 hours on Monday, October 10 while students are out of class for Fall Recess.

help.rice.edu is back up. It had a filesystem error that caused it to hang.
