IT will add a few modules to one of the rice.edu email servers on Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM. No disruption to email service is anticipated.

While an AT&T technician was performing some work on AT&T-owned equipment, he managed to shut down all of the circuits that connect Rice's phones to the outside world. On-campus calling was not disrupted, but calls to and from off-campus were not possible for about 2 minutes. We will address this failure with AT&T management as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience with this disruption.

Storage will be offline briefly for maintenance on Saturday, January 28. Between 8:00AM and 10:00AM, the rolling restart will result in intermittent access interruptions to personal and shared storage spaces.

Dependent services such as web sites, Subversion, and other applications or services tied to personal or departmental storage drives will be affected.

Zabbix (monitor.rice.edu) service is restored. All monitoring is now being received.

IT is replacing wireless network access points (APs) in the Mudd building during business hours (8AM - 4PM) on Wednesday, January 25. Zabbix Server is Down

The Zabbix server is down with a filesystem error. We are investigating.

Network services in the Graduate Apt was briefly interrupted due to power feeding the building routers. All services have been restored.

IT's problem tracking system, Request Tracker, has been returned to full service.

Identity Finder is a security tool currently in use by IT, HR, and Housing and Dining. This tool finds sensitive data on your Rice computers and gives you options to remove or safeguard the files.

IT will be upgrading the tool on Wednesday, January 18 at 5:00 PM. You should not notice any service interruptions during or after the upgrade.

The PGP encryption tool has been updated.

If you utilize PGP encryption on your computer, you may be prompted to update your software the next time you log in.

Mac users, if you are using PGP with OSX Lion and see an Auth Cookie or LDAP pop up, please refer to the FAQ to fix the issue: https://docs.rice.edu/confluence/x/FknVAQ

PGP, the encryption tool used by a number of departments at Rice to secure their laptops, will be upgraded to a new version today (Tuesday, January 17, 2012) at 5:00 PM. The next time you log into your PGP-encrypted computer, you may be prompted to update your software. Migration of the RUF storage has been completed.

Dependent services will return shortly as each of the servers are visited by administrators.

Storage elements behind the Rice Unix Facility (RUF) will begin at 10:00am.

On Friday morning, IT will perform maintenance on equipment that has connections to Subversion, a bug and version tracking application and repository used by several departments. This required maintenance must be completed before classes begin on January 9, 2012. If you utilize Subversion, you may not be able to access the tool between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. IT will upgrade the wireless network in the BRC on Friday morning, January 6, at 7:00 AM. For thirty minutes (7-7:30 AM), there will be intermittent wireless connectivity in the BRC. Rice's wired network in the BRC is not affected by the maintenance. Updates will be posted to the IT web site: it.rice.edu.

On Thursday, January 5, 2012, IT will upgrade Rice's internal firewall software at 4:00 AM.

Between 4:00 and 4:30 AM, you may lose connectivity to internal Rice systems. Access to the Internet should not be affected. Updates will be posted to the IT web site: http://it.rice.edu/
