Mailing List issues

IT is investigating reports of problems with Rice mailing lists. An update will be provided later.

A component of the Officescan system, Smart Scan, is currently offline. Customers may notice that the Officescan icon has a red 'x'. Repairs are under way and it will be back online by 3:00pm today, Feb 22, 2012. Officescan will continue to scan for viruses - the Smart Scan component is not needed for that process. If you have questions please direct them to security@rice.edu.

Printing.ad.rice.edu

Printing.ad.rice.edu is back online. All printers are accessible.

Identity Finder is a security tool currently in use by IT, HR, and Housing and Dining. This tool finds sensitive data on your Rice computers and gives you options to remove or safeguard the files.

IT will be upgrading the tool on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:00 PM. You should not notice any service interruptions during or after the upgrade.

The acceptable use policy landing/splash page for the "Rice Visitor" wireless was changed successfully this morning. All work was complete prior to 7 AM. If you have any trouble connecting, please contact the Help Desk (713-348-HELP/4357). - Danny Eaton (x5233, dannyeaton@rice.edu).

The web page with the Acceptable Use Policy for the Rice Visitor wireless network is moving to a new location at 9AM on Thursday, February 9. No interruptions in service are anticipated. Updates will be posted to the IT web site: http://it.rice.edu/

The landing page for the Rice Visitor wireless network is moving to a new location on Thursday morning. After the change, you might see the prompt requiring you to agree to Rice's Acceptable Use of Computer Resources policy before you access the visitor wireless network. PDC work complete

The filesystems on BlueBioU and DAVinCI have returned to normal operations.

Dell Butcher - 3rd Floor

One of the networking devices on 3rd Floor of Dell Butcher Hall appears to be having issues. Networking is on site, and is taking steps to return full functionality. - Danny Eaton (x5233, dannyeaton@rice.edu).

To improve wireless network performance, IT will replace all wireless access points in Jones College beginning Thursday, February 2.

The work will occur during weekday business hours (8AM - 4PM) and may result in intermittent interruptions to wireless connections near the access point being replaced.
