The maintenance for the storage systems will begin shortly.

IT will be performing storage maintenance tomorrow morning at 5:00 AM. Home directories and Department shares will be offline momentarily during this maintenance. An all clear will be issued when the maintenance is completed.

Web Sites returned

IT received notices that multiple Rice web sites were offline. The reported web sites are currently online and we are researching the cause of the interrupted service. Updates will be posted to the IT web site: it.rice.edu

Stadium power issues

Rice Stadium is experiencing power issues, and FE&P has cut power to the facility. When power is restored, the network gear should come back as well. - Danny Eaton (x5233, dannyeaton@rice.edu)

Yahoo mail delivery

IT discovered that mail sent from rice.edu addresses to yahoo.com addresses (forwarded or sent directly) were being deferred or delayed for 1-2 days, due to problems in the Yahoo mail system. There are no problems with rice.edu mail. We are following Yahoo's posted procedures to correct the problem for messages sent in the last two days. Previously held messages are being delivered now, and the problem will resolve itself in the next few hours.

Web Site Outages

A number of websites were off line due to a hardware failure. The impaired system has been recovered and all affected web sites are back online. Please report any problems via email to help@rice.edu

IT Networking has restored both wired and wireless services at the BRC. Please contact the Help Desk at x4357 if you are still experiencing connectivity issues.

IT Networking has restored wired networking services in the BRC. Wireless connectivity in the BRC is still unavailable at this time. An update will be provided as soon as possible.

IT Networking has identified and corrected the VPN routing issue. VPN services are back online. Please contact IT Operations at x4989 if you are still having connectivity problems.

Intermittent VPN Issues

Network Management is investigating.

The Rice VPN system is currently experiencing some issues related to the configuration changes made last week. Networking is aware of this and is in the process of resolving them. We will post a notice when it is back on-line.

Networking replaced a network module in the PDC. Please contact the operations x4989 if you see any other issues. Client devices may need to reset their network connection to restore connectivity.

The email issues have been resolved. The problem seems to have been limited to undergraduate student email accounts and may have resulted from a mis-configured Google server.

BRC hardware issue

Power blips across campus

Due to thunderstorm in the area, users may experience intermittent network connection from fluctuating electrical grid.

VPN Service Online

VPN services are back online. Please contact the HelpDesk at x4357 if you are still having connectivity problems.

VPN service is still offline at this time. IT Networking is currently working on the issue and will advise when the service is available.

IT Networking will begin maintenance on the VPN service at 7am. VPN users may experience intermittent connectivity for approximately 1 hour.

The VPN service, which is used to connect to secure Rice networks, will be unavailable Tuesday morning for maintenance.

Beginning at 7AM, existing VPN connections will be dropped and any new connections will be unsuccessful for approximately one hour.
