Events.rice.edu is the university's events announcement web site. IT is upgrading the database that runs events.rice.edu on Sunday, March 2, between 8AM and 11AM.

The Events web site will be down only 15 minutes of the three hour maintenance window. However, NO CHANGES made during the maintenance window will be RETAINED. Please do not attempt to create or edit content in the Events.rice.edu web site between 8AM and 11AM.

Additionally, RSS feeds depending on events.rice.edu may not respond during the maintenance. If your department web site includes an RSS-feed for content from events.rice.edu, this content will be absent from your site during the maintenance window.

The campus voicemail system is currently experiencing some service issues. In order to address these, Rice Telecommunications needs to reboot the system. We expect this to take approximately 10 minutes. If all goes as expected, voicemail will be unavailable from 9:15 - 9:25.

The database that runs events.rice.edu, the university's event announcement system, will be upgraded on Sunday, March 2, between 8AM and 11AM. Although the web site will be down only 15 minutes of that window, no changes made during the maintenance window will be retained.

Additionally, RSS feeds depending on events.rice.edu may not respond during the maintenance. For example, the IT.rice.edu web site pulls an RSS feed of the next three IT-sponsored events. IT Networking has rerouted Internet traffic between Rice and Google while upstream service providers work to resolve the issue. All Google related services should be back to normal operation. Please contact IT Operations at x4989 if you are still experiencing connectivity problems.

One of the paths that most research and education institutions in the state of Texas use to reach Google services (including Gmail and YouTube) is having issues. As a result, users are unable to reliably connect to most Google-hosted sites or content. Rice's network engineers and our upstream service provider engineers are working on the issue to either resolve it or configure a bypass.

There was a temporary interruption of wireless service on the north half of campus. Service has returned at this time. We are working with the vendor to determine a root cause. Thank you for your understanding. - Danny Eaton (dannyeaton@rice.edu)
