MyNetID.rice.edu has been upgraded to version 1.3.0 that fixes several fatal errors that people were experiencing.  Also in this release, users can enter external contact information that will be used during password recovery.

All servers have been upgraded and everything looks good.

held in the queues during the maintenance window have been
distributed.

The scheduled maintenance window for the Rice email system is
beginning.  Messages will queue; for delivery upon completion of the
maintenance work, in approximately one hour.  Updates will be posted
to the IT web site: it.rice.edu.
 

 

 

The campus email service will be off line for maintenance Tomorrow - Saturday 28th between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM.  Sending and receiving email will not be possible during this time.  IT recommends that customers restart their email client after 8:00 AM if they have difficulty connecting to the mail service.  If you should have any problem after the maintenance, please contact the help desk at 713 348 4357.

The campus email service will be intermittently offline for approximately 1 hour this Saturday June 28th from 7:00 AM until 8:00 AM to complete the annual summer maintenance for this service.  No email will be lost during this process. Rice customers may NOT be able to send or receive messages during the maintenance.   All messages sent to Rice email addresses during the outage will be delivered when the service returns.  Customers are asked to restart their email clients after 8:00 AM Saturday if they should encounter problems sending or receiving email.

The certificate names have been corrected and users will no longer see an error/warning message about the mail certificate name mismatch.

Rice email is currently presenting an error/warning  message about the certificate for imap.mail.rice.edu.  The certificate is currently presenting ricemail.rice.edu

as the certificate name instead.  We are working now to correct the certificate name, which will stop the warning messages.  Users may proceed with their mail connections safely.

The issue with slowness of internet services has been resolved at this time.  IT will continue to monitor this issue, but at this time all services are operating normally.

 

IT has detected a denial of service attack from the internet directed at Rice that may cause some service problems. Access to some internet services such as Google may appear slow as a result. IT staff are aware of the problem and are taking measure to address it.  An update will be issued by noon today.

Greenbriar Power Outage

Greenbriar is down due to a planned power outage.  It is scheduled to come back up around 12 PM Noon today. - Danny Eaton (x5233, dannyeaton@rice.edu)

The scheduled outage for storage will begin at 7:00 AM today Saturday June 14.

 

Storage systems will be unavailable due to maintenance Saturday June 14th from 7:00am to 8:00am.

The video streaming service will be undergoing maintenance over the next few days.  There should be no disruption of the services until the last stage which is expected to occur next week.  Should you experience any difficulty access streaming video, please contact the help desk at 713 348 4357

MyNetID.rice.edu has been upgraded to version 1.2.1 that fixes the following issues

  • Users are now able to create mail aliases with names matching the constraints listed on the page
  • New users trying to activate their NetID can now enter their riceID without regard to character case
  • Users using the password recovery feature will now be told if they do not have contact information on file

A small section in Abercrombie experienced a brief network interruption around 12:23pm CDT. All services are back up. Network management is investigating the root cause.

Due to failing equipment, the old webmail-legacy interface will go offline permanently at 7AM on Wednesday, June 4.

The web address will automatically redirect to the new webmail.rice.edu URL, which was released in April.

To experience a similar interface to the legacy site, select "Basic" Mode when you log in.

IT has individually contacted the 11 Rice community members who continue logging into the old webmail-legacy.rice.edu interface, to advise them of the change.

Updates will be posted to the IT web site: it.rice.edu.

The replacement server for kennel.ruf is organization.rice.edu and is available now. You can access the new server via organization.rice.edu or the old name, kennel.ruf.rice.edu (ruf.rice.edu).

Users may notice some differences between the old server and the new server.  For more information see:   RUF DIY

The build of the alternative server for kennel.ruf is still in progress.  The original server cannot be recovered.

At this time, users cannot login to kennel.ruf.  However, all web pages from the old ruf system are still accessible via a browser. 

We are completing the Rice security scan and security checklist for the replacement server, and hope to have it operational on 

Tuesday; June 3, 2014.
