OIT Technical Services and Network Management has completed the maintenance in Herring Hall, IDF 223. Users are advised to reboot their machines (including printers, etc.) to restore full network connectivity. Please contact your divisional representative or the Help Desk (x4357) if you are experiencing connectivity issues.

Network Blip in Keck Hall

Users may have experienced a brief network interruption in Keck Hall. All network services have recovered. Network management is investigating the root cause. Please report any other issues to the Helpdesk x4357.

IT Networking has completed the maintenance in Dell Butcher Hall. Users are advised to reboot their machines to restore full network connectivity. Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) if you are experiencing connectivity issues.

The planned network upgrade for Dell Butcher Hall will begin at 6PM. Notification will be sent when the work has been completed.

On April 3, at 9AM, OIT will begin preparatory work for updates to three core storage systems.  No interruptions should occur until 9PM, when a series of rolling reboots will cycle through these storage solutions:

  • Storage.rice.edu (individual storage and department shared storage)
  • Crate (scratch storage space for researchers)
  • RNAS (storage solution purchased by departments for archival storage, not research related)

These services will remain online for most of the rolling reboot, with only intermittent connection interruptions.  Updates will be posted online: it.rice.edu.

On Wednesday evening, March 25, at 6:00 PM, one of the two network switches in the 1st floor of Dell Butcher Hall will be upgraded. The network connectivity for half the 1st and 2nd floor of the building will be affected during the change over. Work will take approximately 3 Hours. Early Tuesday morning, March 24, at 5:00 AM, the network switches in the basement of Brockman Hall for Physics will be upgraded. The network connectivity for basement and 1st floor of the building will be affected during the change over, but services will be returned to full functionality before classes begin that morning. Web maintenance for sites on ruf.rice.edu and owlnet.rice.edu was completed. Please report any issues to the Help Desk (x4357).

At 6 PM on Wednesday, March 18 the network access switches in Herring Hall will be upgraded.  The network connectivity (both wired and wireless) will be down during this change.  The network equipment in rooms 121, 240 and 327 will be impacted.  Updates will be sent out and posted to the IT website:  http://it.rice.edu.  Users will need to reboot their machines upon completion of the equipment changeover.  Thank you in advance.  - OIT/Techical Services and Network Management.

Web maintenance for sites on ruf.rice.edu and owlnet.rice.edu will occur 6-7AM on Thursday, March 19. This web maintenance is part of the Office of Information Technology's (OIT's) overall project list as we continue to upgrade and improve our IT infrastructure. Owners of these sites have already been notified of the maintenance window.
OIT anticipates no interruptions or outages during the maintenance because all site content is hosted in storage.rice.edu.  The front end hardware is being replaced in order to decommission aging equipment.  If for any reason one of your web site pages yields a 404 "content not found" error after the maintenance is complete, email Helpdesk@rice.edu for assistance adjusting the display to reveal your content.  Updates will be posted online: it.rice.edu.

IT Networking will be replacing some of the network switches in Facilities. Notification will be sent when the work has been completed.

The Ensemble reboot is complete and all classroom video distribution services and logins have been returned to full service. If you notice any issues, email helpdesk@rice.edu.

At 5:00 PM, OIT will reboot the server hosting Ensemble tools used for classroom video distribution to address sporadic login issues. This reboot will cause a brief outage for anyone using Ensemble.  The outage will last 15 minutes or less and updates will be posted online: it.rice.edu.

IT Networking has completed the network switch replacements in the 4009 and 4012 wiring closets.  Normal connectivity has been restored. Please report any issues to the Help Desk (x4357).

IT Networking will begin upgrading the network switches in the Duncan 4009 and 4012 wiring closets.  Network connectivity in the area of the building served by this equipment will be unavailable until completion. Notification will be sent when the work is complete.

 

 

One network switch in a stack of three reset this afternoon, which caused a limited area outage for the 4th floor of Sewall Hall.  The network switch is back up and operating normally at this time.  - OIT/Network Management & Technical Services

Sewall 155 Switch reboot

OIT / Networking and Technical Services is going to reboot the network switch in Sewall 155.  Network connectivity will return shortly.  An update will be sent out when complete.
