The network equipment in OIT closet b15 of Lovett Hall will be replaced Tuesday May 5th at 0500.  Users will lose wired and wireless connectivity as the equipment is replaced.  User will need to reboot their devices upon completion of the work.  An update will be sent when complete.  Thank you.  OIT Network Management / Technical Services.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) self-imposes a moratorium on system changes during finals each semester.  For the Spring 2015 semester, OIT will undertake only emergency fixes for core systems and applications used by faculty, staff and students between Saturday, April 25 and Thursday, May 7.  Status updates can be found online: http://oit.rice.edu.

Campus Wide Power Blip

A brief power outage occurred campus wide resulting interruption of network services. Network management is monitoring.

IT Networking has completed the maintenance in Tudor Fieldhouse. Users are advised to reboot their machines to restore full network connectivity. Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) if you are experiencing connectivity issues.

The planned maintenance on the Isilon storage server was partially completed.  The Operating System upgrade and a security patch were installed, but firmware updates could not be completed within the time window.  The storage service is online and available.

 

The firmware updates will be rescheduled.

The Shibboleth server became unresponsive tonight about 9:15pm.  The service has been restarted and appears to be working normally now.

We are investigating what caused the outage.

Both docs.rice.edu and wiki.rice.edu Web sites began experiencing intermittent outages, starting around 18:20 today.

IT has worked on the problem and all issues are resolved at this time.  If you still experience issues with either of these sites,

please log a problem ticket at help.rice.edu.

Dropbox service issues were resolved at ~16:00 today.  The web interface is operational and users can now pickup or dropoff files.

IT is working on problems with the Dropbox service.  We have no ETA on resolution at this time.  We will post an update

when we believe the issue is resolved.

IT Networking completed the network switch replacement in Anderson Hall at approximately 6:15am this morning.  Normal connectivity has been restored.  Please report any issues to the Help Desk (x4357). 

OIT has investigated issues with wiki.rice.edu and docs.rice.edu and they have been resolved. Please report any problems to the Helpdesk. (xHELP, help@rice.edu)

OIT will begin a series of rolling reboots at 9:00pm to cycle recent updates through three storage solutions: 

  • Storage.rice.edu (individual storage and department shared storage)
  • Crate (scratch storage space for researchers)
  • RNAS (storage solution purchased by departments for archival storage, not research related)

These services will remain online for most of the rolling reboot, with only intermittent connection interruptions.

The mirror server to the CMS400 websites will be patched tonight, April 1 @ 5:30.  Although we will be patching the backup database server, it is possible that a few of the CMS400 websites will experience a blip or brief outage.
