Good afternoon,

One of the servers failed affecting the following services

  • Webmail
  • Apply
  • Uportal
  • Ldap
  • Directory
  • Printing.

We are currently migrating these services to another Virtual Server which will result in a short interruption of services.

The upgrade for Herzstein OIT closet B38 is complete as of 0630.  Normal network connectivity is returned.  If you have challenges connecting to the network, please contact the OIT Help Desk (x4357).  Thank you.

The planned upgrade for closet B38 will begin at 0600 this morning.   An update will be sent when complete.  Thank you.

The upgrade of the Grouper database and web GUI has been completed. If you have any problems or questions, contact the Help Desk at x4357 or send mail to helpdesk@rice.edu.

The upgrade of the Grouper service will begin shortly. If you  have emergency changes that need to be made to LDAP groups in the meantime, contact Identity & Access Management to make the change manually for you.

The network maintenance in BioScience Research Collaborative building is complete.  Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) if you have any connectivity issues. 

The planned network maintenance for BioScience Building will begin at 4:00am. 

Proofpoint maintenance has been completed successfully with no impact to services. Apologies for the confusion on the previous IT Alert.

Proofpoint maintenance has been deferred for tonight and will be rescheduled for implementation. No configuration changes have been made.

IT Security Office will be performing maintenance on the Proofpoint devices on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm.  No downtime is expected.

Grouper upgrade

The Grouper service used for managing LDAP group memberships will be offline for an upgrade Friday, Jan 22. The maintenance window is scheduled for 8:30am-12:30pm, but will likely not take that long. An update will be sent when the work is complete.

The planned maintenance has been completed and normal connectivity should be established.   If you have wired or wireless issues please contact your division representative or the help desk.

The office of information technology will be performing network maintenance on A118 closet of Abercrombie.   An update will be sent when complete.  Expectations are the outage will last 4 hours. Thank you.

The storage issue experienced earlier today has subsided and appears to have been experienced only in the Allen Center.  If you are still experiencing an issue, please contact the Help Desk (#4357 or help@rice.edu) or me.

We are currently experiencing some issues connecting to storage across the campus.  OIT is currently investigating the issue.

Problem has been corrected. Services should be back up.

This is affecting wireless service on some floors of the building. Network Management is investigating.

On Monday (1/18/2016), from 5:00 am until 7:00 am, Rice's Networking Team will perform additional maintenance on the campus wireless network.  During this time period, wireless services will be available intermittently.

After this timeframe, if you experience any issues with using the wireless network, please contact the OIT Help Desk via phone (713-348-4357), web (http://helpdesk.rice.edu), or email (helpdesk@rice.edu).

The network maintenance window has ended.  Normal service has continued.  

The software upgrade for the wireless network controllers has begun. Users will experience intermittent connectivity during this period.  A status update will be sent upon completion.  Thank you.

The wireless software upgrade is postponed 24 hours, and will happen on Friday, 15 Jan 2015 at 0400.  

Based on a recommendation from our wireless vendor a software upgrade to implement a patch will need to be done starting st 0400 on Thursday AM.  Networking personnel will be on premise to perform this exercise.  Users will experience intermittent connectivity during this upgrade. 

Network Security Maintenance

IT Security Office will be performing maintenance on one of the network security devices on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm.  No downtime is expected.  Notification will be sent when the work is started and completed.

OIT Network will be performing maintenance on the network switches in Rice Village Apts, Graduate Apts, and Jones College.  During this time, network connectivity will be intermittent. Notification will be sent at completion.

The hardware fault was determined and the failed device was replaced.  All work is complete and all network equipment is up and operating normally.  Thank you!  

The planned network maintenance for Anderson Architecture and McNair Hall is complete.  OIT/NTDCO has detected an issue with the 2nd floor of Allen Center and is working to resolve that issue at this time.  An update will be forthcoming.

The planned network maintenance for Allen Center, Anderson Architecture and McNair Hall is beginning now.  No user interaction is needed, and no visible impact is expected.  An update will be sent when available.

OIT Networking will be performing maintenance on the network switches in Baker, Hanzen, and Will Rice residential colleges.  During this time, network connectivity will be intermittent. Notification will be sent at completion.
