Office of Information Technology (OIT) performed maintenance on a server that affected various services until 8am this morning.  The following services should all be operational:

  • MyNetID.rice.edu
  • OwlDB Provisioning/Password Changing
  • Grouper
  • Shibboleth SSO

OIT Networking has verified that network services are back online throughout the campus.  Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) with any issues.

No appreciable loss of connectivity was noted during our exercise, which is complete at this time.  Thank you.

The campus has experienced a campus-wide power blip that has caused some network equipment to restart.  OIT Networking will provide an update on network connectivity as soon as possible.

The planned network maintenance for FE&P is completed for today..  OIT/Networking and Technical Services has one more closet to complete (in the carpentry shop) and will do that tomorrow morning starting at 0600.  Thank you for your patience during these upgrades.

Emergency Maintenance on Campus Mail Servers is complete.  There were no issues during the maintenance.

Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) with any Email  issues.

Planned Emergency maintenance on the Campus Mail Servers will begin shortly.  OIT does not expect users to have any

mail connection issues during this maintenance.

The network switch in the laundry room of South/New Hanszen is currently intermittent.  OIT/Networking/Tech Services is investigating.  We will advise you when the issue is resolved.

Networking will be performing a network maintenance on the campus Internet links starting at 6am. User may experience sub-optimal performance. Notification will be sent at completion.

Normal connectivity should be expected.  Thank you.  

VPN services are back online.  Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) with any connectivity issues.

Users may lose connectivity briefly during the maintenance period.  An update will be sent when complete.  

VPN Maintenance

OIT Networking will be performing software maintenance on the VPN service.  During this time, VPN services will be unavailable.  Notification will be sent at completion.

System updates for the Central Mail System are completed and no further service re-starts will be required. Please report any problems to the Help Desk at help@rice.edu.

All planned maintenance activity for today, Wednesday 09 Mar 2016 is complete.  Thank you.

The planned maintenance for Anderson Clarke Continuing Studies will begin at 0600.  Users will be without wired or wireless during this exercise.  An update will be sent when completed.  Thank you.

Campus Internet services were restored at 9:14 pm central time just after the earlier OIT-Alert was sent.  Further investigation and research by the Networking and Security teams has confirmed that services were disrupted stating at 8:59 pm, so the full disruption was 15 minutes.

The root cause of the problem is still being investigated, but it has been confirmed to be related to the scheduled maintenance that was being performed on some Internet security systems this evening.

At this point, we believe that all systems are performing properly.

Internet Outage

Campus Internet Services are currently offline.  OIT Networking is investigating.

IPS Maintenance - Started

At 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 3, the Security will be performing maintenance on the IPS.

The planned maintenance for Duncan Hall 1024 (Symonds Lab) is complete.  Users will need to reboot their devices to restore complete connectivity.  If after rebooting, you continue to have issues, please contact the IT Service Help Desk at 713-348-4357 (xHELP).  Thank you.

The planned, approved Shibboleth upgrade has been rescheduled for tomorrow 3/2/16 at 6:00am.

The scheduled upgrade of the Shibboleth service used for web single sign-on will begin at 8:00am.

No service interruption is expected.
