IBC 3rd and 8th floors experience a network outage this morning after the network maintenance.  All connectivity has been restored.  

The planned migration of the routing gateway for the IBC building has completed.  The second half will be completed tomorrow morning.  No impact to users is expected. Thank you for your patience.

System maintenance for various IAM systems has begun.  

Services affected:

  • Shibboleth SSO
  • CAS SSO
  • Box
  • Canvas
  • Grouper
  • Owlspace-ccm

The service should be complete for Shibboleth SSO (Box, Canvas, and Owlspace-ccm) by 6:30am.

All other services should be available by 10:30 am.

The system admins and classroom support team are currently working to resolve this issue. Mudd 101 Computer Lab is available if you need a computer.. An update will be posted when services have been restored.

 

The Rice Campus lost power around 10:00 am.  Most buildings had power restored by 10:08 am and as of 10:30 am, power has been restored to all buildings. Campus Networking Services (wired and wireless networking) were either not affected or have now been restored.  Please contact the Help Desk at #4357 or at helpdesk@rice.edu if you are still experiencing issues.

Issue with single sign-on has been resolved.  Issue was related to an automated update to the single sign-on system.  Please contact the helpdesk (#4357 or helpdesk@rice.edu) if you are still experiencing any issues.

We are currently experiencing login issues to certain systems such as Canvas, Owlspace, Box and other systems.  We are investigating the issue and will give an update as one becomes available.

This Friday morning (Nov. 4, 2016) from 4:00 am until 6:00 am, Rice’s Networking team will be performing emergency maintenance on the system that supports logon services for the wired network in Rice’s Residential Colleges and Athletic facilities.  During this maintenance, wired network services in the colleges and Athletic facilities may be unavailable.  The wireless network will still be available for these areas. 

An OIT-alert will be sent out prior to the start of work and at its completion.  You can also view the status of the work on the OIT Website at oit.rice.edu under the IT Alerts section.  If, after 6:00 am you notice anything not performing as expected, please contact the OIT Operations Center at 713-348-4989 or log a Help Desk Ticket via helpdesk.rice.edu.

The Rice Campus experienced a brief power blip at about 1:55pm.  As of this time, Ryon Lab appears to be the only building who experienced a brief network outage (back online now) and we believe all systems are back online and accessible.  If you are still experiencing any adverse effects (network outages, etc.) resulting from the power blip, please contact the Help Desk at #4357 or at helpdesk@rice.edu.

The security patch maintenance has completed on organization.rice.edu and classes.rice.edu servers.

Users may now login to these servers.

OIT Networking has completed network maintenance in the Media Center.  Network connectivity has been restored. All users are advised to reboot their workstations.  Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) with any issues.

The OIT Network Management department will begin a planned software upgrade for essentially half the campus wireless network beginning at 0400.  Everything "south" of Lovett Hall, Fondren Library, the Pavilion, Alice Pratt Brown and the Stadium will lose connectivity during this software upgrade.  An update will be sent when available.  Thank you.
